Cheese and Crackers

The story is told of a time when people still crossed the Atlantic by ship. A man spent nearly all he had for a ticket to the United States, leaving only enough money to buy some cheese and crackers. Throughout the month-long voyage, that was all he had to eat.

The Beauty of Solitude

There was a time when I thought I'd give almost anything for a little peace and quiet. Our home was wonderfully full—a husband, three children, my dad living with us, and a father-in-law who joined us for dinner most evenings.

Planned or Unplanned

Accidents are part of our everyday life. You may inadvertently bump into someone at the supermarket, spill coffee at a restaurant, put the wrong ingredient into a recipe, slip on a wet surface and break a bone, have an automobile collision, or know of an unplanned pregnancy. These do not happen according to our expectations, but they do not catch God by surprise.

Truly Giving Your Life to Christ

Anytime I sign up for devotionals or am asked to do a devotional, I never know what to write. Even right now typing this, I don’t fully know what to write. But after thinking about it and trying to listen to God as He hits me over the head with a 2x4, “giving your life to Christ” came to mind.

The Trio

I recently went to my grandson’s high school graduation. A very proud moment. But an even prouder moment was realizing the friendships he had made in high school.

From Independence to Dependence

This Fourth of July, Americans will celebrate 250 years of independence. How exciting!
